I’m Karen Heard, a fiction writer and theatre director based in London. I write literary fantasy. Misheard Fiction is a place where you can find sample stories, descriptions of my writing process and ways to get in touch.

For over twenty years, I’ve worked in prose fiction, and for the past ten in theatre alongside it, bringing the instincts from each form into the other. My writing generally leans towards the darker side of literary fiction, exploring psychological and conceptual ideas through story, often turning abstract questions into characters, worlds and places. My work moves between the extremes of dark and light: existential one moment, funny the next..
